Silverfish are a starch feeder who damage (eat) paper, fabrics, glues and other organic materials. They may also damage silk & some synthetic fabrics, but usually avoid woolen material. Silverfish prefer to live in dark quiet places and are most active during night time. Silverfish infestations can start when their eggs, nymphs (young ones), or adults are brought into the home in infested cardboard boxes, cartons, furniture or similar items.

Silverfish are white,brown-grey or bluish-silver in colour and shaped teardrop.They measure to 12-19mm in length.They grow from egg to adult without drastic change in their appearance and the adult has 3 long bristles on rear.

Silver fish can live in most of the climates;well in dark places,damp areas such as basements,attics,kitchens and bathrooms.They are commonly found in wardrobes containing clothing and paper.

Silverfish feed on carbohydrates,mainly on sugars and starches.Their main food sources can be like cellulose,shampoos,glue in books,linen,silk and dead insects.Also sometimes found in unopened food packages.
