Mosquitoes go through four stages of their life cycle, egg, larva, pupa and adult (Imago). Adult females lay eggs in standing water, which can be a salt lake or a pond, a marsh too. Males beat their wings between 450-600 times per second. The head contains the eyes and a pair of long, many-segmented antennae. These antennae help in detecting the host odours as well as the breeding sites. Depending on the situation mosquito control is done by source reduction, bio control, trapping or insecticides to kill larvae or adults may be used.

Mosquitoes are very well known for female adults which feed on the blood of human. But the family of them which includes males,young ones feed on the nectar of flowers. Some species also feed on other tiny mosquitoes. Till they grow to a good age their growth will happen in stagnated water. During this stage they feed on the organic material present in the water. Later they grow on consuming the blood of human specially the female ones.

Males have antenna which locates female adults. After mating the female feed on blood of human for aiding the reproduction act. It lays over 100 eggs in single laying irrespective of breed. Usually this laying takes place in natural ponds but these day man made baths like bird baths, mud puddles and buckets have been chosen for laying eggs. The young larvae are called tumblers due to their tumbling action. The pupa stage buil into a good skeleton body and emerge into the air like a good mosquito.

Mosquitoes give an annoying sign of buzzing sounds and tight bites. Their bites effects vary from mild irritation to terrible swelling.Some shelters for the immature are even the mist mud in the plant pots.

Female mosquitoes have the ability to pierce the human skin and extract blood. This blood is used for the egg production. Males do not have the ability to bite or extract

Mosquito bite is well known to everybody. Its bite causes tiny swelling and for those who are not resistant to the saliva can even generate allergic diseases, symptoms of which are blisters andasthma like conditions .Female anopheles mosquito bite is well known for the propaganda of diseases like malaria,dengue and filaria.
